Lesson Delivery
Introduction
15 Minutes - What does your future hold?
Ask students to put on their fortune teller hat and look into a crystal ball. What do they see? Can they see an image of the kind of person they will be, the work they might do, or the life they might lead? Remind students that their dreams may be about any aspect of their future life e.g. I want to bring up my children in the country or I want to be able to work anywhere in the world.
Discuss what students are doing now that will help them to make their ‘fortune’ come true and what they will need to do in the future. I.e. subject selection. Talk briefly about goals and planning.
SMART goals are covered in Module 5: My career action plan.
Development
20 Minutes - Matching jobs
Ask students to complete the ‘Twenty years from now’ worksheet in pairs and then ask them to share their ideas with the rest of the class. Why did they think a particular job was suited to a particular student? Do students agree with what their classmates have imagined for their future job?
50 Minutes - Vision board
Ask students to create a vision board to help them focus on their hopes, dreams and aspirations. Talk about how a vision board can give them inspiration and motivation to work towards their goals.
Closure
20 Minutes - Pathways website
